Flood Advisory Issued for Kaua‘i County
The National Weather Service in Honolulu has issued a flood advisory for Kaua‘i County until 2:30 p.m.
At 11:34 a.m., radar indicated heavy rain over central and southeastern portions of the Garden Island. Rain was falling at a rate of one to two inches per hour. Mountain rainfall will make its way downstream soon. This advisory may need to be extended beyond 2:30 p.m. if flooding persists.
Areas impacted by the advisory are: Līhu‘e, Kapa‘a, Kalaheo, Kekaha, Princeville, Kīlauea, North Fork Wailua Trails, Lawai, Omao, Koke‘e State Park, Wailua Homesteads, Hanalei, Hanapepe, Wainiha, Na Pali State Park, Koloa, Haena, Waimea, Wailua and Poipu.
Residents are advised to stay away from streams, drainage ditches and low lying areas prone to flooding. Rainfall and runoff will also cause hazardous driving conditions due to ponding, reduced visibility and poor braking action.
Do not cross fast flowing or rising water in your vehicle, or on foot. Turn around, don’t drown.
