Injured Hiker Rescued Near Makaleha Falls

An injured hiker found near Makaleha Falls in Kapa‘a was airlifted to the hospital on Sunday afternoon.

Kaua‘i Fire Department was notified at around 1:40 p.m. when a a 62-year-old Kaua‘i man reportedly injured his leg while hiking along the trail.

Rescue specialists aboard Air 1 responded to the call and located the man near the riverbed. Firefighters safely loaded the man into a Stokes litter and airlifted him to a nearby landing zone at Kapahi Park.

Awaiting AMR medics provided additional support and transported the man to Wilcox Medical Center for further treatment.
