Water Service Shutdown Scheduled in Hanapepe
A water service shutdown is scheduled this week on a portion of Hanapepe Road between Ko Road and Hana Road, and also includes approximately four customers on Kona Road in Hanapepe.
The water will be turned off on Tuesday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., weather permitting.
The eight-hour water service shutdown is necessary in order to connect the new six-inch main line to the existing 12-inch main line on Hanapepe Road and relocate two service meters as part of the Hanapepe-Ele‘ele Water Systems Improvements Project.
A partial road closure is also scheduled on Hanapepe Road near the intersection of Kona Road and Hanapepe Road in Hanapepe town. Motorists are advised to use alternate routes and adhere to traffic control in the area.
The Department of Water (DOW) also asks Hanapepe and Ele‘ele customers to conserve water during the shutoff. Customers are advised to minimize water use to essential needs only; such as: drinking, cooking and sanitation purposes, in order to avoid a water service outage in the system.
The water conservation request is in place to maintain water storage tank levels and service for the Hanapepe-Ele‘ele water system, during the scheduled water system improvement work in Hanapepe town.
Water conservation measures include: turning off appliances and plumbing fixtures that automatically draw water; such as ice machines and irrigation systems and refrain from car washing.
Customers are advised to prepare for the water service shutdown by taking the following steps:
·Store enough water to meet your needs until water service can be restored.
·Notify family, friends and neighbors of the scheduled shutdown.
·Those with faulty water heaters should ensure that water heaters do not empty during the shutdown.
·Businesses should plan accordingly before and during a water service shutdown.
A trailer-mounted water tank containing potable water will be located near the intersection of Kona Road and Koula Road. Customers must bring their own containers to fill-up if needed.
