A Līhuʽe man who died in a single-vehicle crash last week on Rice Street has been identified as Jesse Santiago.

The crash occurred on Aug. 21 at approximately 11:30 p.m. According to Kauaʽi Police, Santiago, 50, was driving a 2003 red Toyota pickup truck and was heading westbound on Rice Street when his vehicle struck a utility pole at the intersection of Eiwa Street.

The truck continued heading in the same direction, striking another utility pole, before coming to rest in the westbound lane of Rice Street fronting the Kauaʽi Museum.

Speed appears to be a contributing factor in the crash and toxicology results are still pending to determine if alcohol and/or drugs were also involved.
