KFD Responds to 2 Structure Fires; No Injuries Reported

No injuries were reported after Kaua‘i firefighters extinguished two blazes this week on the east side of the island.

The first fire was reported at approximately 8:20 p.m. on Aug. 10. Crews from the Kaiākea fire station were dispatched to a structure fire on Iwi Road in Kapa‘a. When firefighters arrived on scene of a home they found a stove fire contained by the owner.

Damages are estimated at $500 and firefighters cleared the scene at 10:40 p.m.

Another fire was reported at approximately 2:45 a.m. on Aug. 11. Personnel from the Līhu‘e, Kapa‘a, and Kaiākea fire stations; Rescue 3; and the on-scene Battalion Chief were dispatched to a two-story structure fire on Leimomi Street in Wailua.

On scene, firefighters reported seeing smoke from the dwelling’s garage. A resident reported that the fire was extinguished. However, firefighters discovered a small flame in a corner of the garage, extinguished the fire, and utilized a fan to clear existing smoke.

Firefighters cleared the scene at approximately 3:30 a.m. Damages are estimated at $25,000 and the cause of the fire remains under investigation.
