Kuhio Highway Southbound Contraflow Reopened
The southbound contraflow on Kuhio Highway between Kapule Highway and the Kapaʻa Temporary Bypass Road has reopened.
The contraflow was temporarily suspended in the area on June 16 because of the lack of traffic due to people staying at home as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. While the contraflow is open, it will operate Monday through Friday from 5:30-11:30 a.m.
The Wailua-Kapaʻa corridor on Kuhio Highway is monitored daily for traffic and congestion. A recent rise in traffic volume along this stretch was the impetus for the change, according to Hawaiʻi Department of Transportation. HDOT will continue to observe the situation and reintroduce Saturday contraflow as traffic conditions warrant.
