Kapaʽa Man Dies in Motorcycle Crash

A 58-year-old Kapaʽa man died in a single vehicle crash Monday around 6:15 p.m. on Kūhiō Highway in the vicinity of the Hanalei Refuse Transfer Station.

According to a preliminary report, the man was driving a 2014 Harley Davidson motorcycle southbound on Kūhiō Highway when he lost control and crashed.

Traffic was eventually diverted around the scene while Kūhiō Highway remained closed for approximately three hours as an investigation was conducted by the Kauaʽi Police Department’s Traffic Safety Unit.

Toxicology reports are pending, and it is unknown at this time if speed, alcohol or any other form of impairment were contributing factors in the crash.

 Anyone who may have witnessed the crash are asked to please contact Officer S. Hanna of the Traffic Safety Unit at 808-241-1615.

 The name of the motorcyclist has not yet been released. This is Kaua‘i’s fifth traffic fatality of 2020.
