The Drivers Licensing Division will resume road testing starting July 6, 2020.

Since March, county services statewide stopped or were severely restricted in an effort to contain the spread of COVID-19. As reports of new cases stabilized, the state and each county has made efforts to reopen for business. While recent spikes in Kaua‘i County have raised concern, it was anticipated.

“The return of COVID-19 to the island was expected, but it is concerning and it reinforces our need to be extremely careful in our day-to-day interactions to contain the spread,” said Kaua‘i County Mayor Derek Kawakami during a press conference last week.

Road testing will be available for Kaua‘i residents by appointment only by calling the Drivers Licensing Division at 808-241-4242. The following safety protocols will be in place:

·All passengers in the enclosed vehicle will be required to wear a mask.
·All passengers in the vehicle will have their temperature taken immediately prior to the road test.
·The applicant will sign an affidavit indicating recent travel and any symptoms of sickness.
·The air conditioning system in the test vehicle will remain off and windows rolled down to maximize air flow.

“The health and safety of the community and our associates has been and remains our primary focus. Social distancing guidelines will be enforced and masks will be required for entry and service,” county officials say.

The Drivers License Division reserves the right to refuse service to any customer who does not abide by the guidelines or does not feel comfortable in the testing vehicle. Detailed applicant information and health and safety requirements can be found at https://www.kauai.gov/DriversLicense.
