Single-Vehicle Crash Leaves Lāwaʽi Man Dead
A Lāwaʽi man is dead after a single-vehicle crash on Piko Road in the vicinity of the Konishi Road intersection in Lāwaʽi Sunday night.
According to a preliminary report, the man was operating a 2004 silver Toyota pickup truck and was heading west around 11:55 p.m. when he failed to negotiate a curve in the road, crossed the centerline onto the eastbound shoulder and crashed.
Speed appears to be a contributing factor in the crash and toxicology results are pending to determine if alcohol and/or drugs were also involved.
Piko Road was closed for approximately four hours while the Kauaʽi Police Department’s Traffic Safety Unit conducted an investigation.
The name of the driver has not yet been released. This is Kaua‘i’s fourth traffic fatality of 2020.
