More than 300 people attended the opening weekend for trout fishing at the Pu‘u Loa reservoir at Koke‘e State Park. The DLNR Division of Aquatic Resources staff implemented a lottery system in order to allow fishing to take place while incorporating Hawaii Department of Health guidance on gatherings and physical distancing.

Nearly everyone caught their limit of seven fish and nobody left empty-handed. Currently, the season runs weekends through through July 12. If sufficient fish stock is remaining after that date, an announcement will be posted on the DAR website, extending fishing to non-lottery holders after that time.
