64-year-old man dies following hit-and-run in Kapaʻa on Kauaʻi

A 64-year-old man died Sunday evening following a hit-and-run in Kapa‘a, according to Kauaʻi police.

Shortly before 9:45 p.m. on March 26, officers were dispatched to a report of a traffic crash involving a pedestrian and a vehicle on Kukui Street in Kapa‘a.

According to a preliminary report, a dark-colored Toyota Tacoma turned left from Kūhiō Highway onto Kukui Street and struck a pedestrian who was crossing Kukui Street. The pedestrian, a resident of Kapaʻa, was treated at the scene before being transported in critical condition to Wilcox Medical Center, where he later died. The man has not been identified.

The driver of the truck fled the crash and has not been located.

Kukui Street was closed in both directions for approximately 1.5 hours while the Kaua‘i Police Department’s Traffic Safety Section conducted an investigation.
