Property owners only have a few days left if they plan to appeal their 2023 real property assessment. The filing deadline, which was already extended, is Jan. 3, 2023.

A notice of property assessment was mailed Dec. 1 to real property owners. The notice can also be found online. Owners are strongly encouraged to read both sides of the notice and review the market valuation, tax classification, property status and the amount of exemptions, if any, for their respective properties.

A property owner can file an appeal to their 2023 assessment if they are aggrieved by any or all of the grounds for an appeal. Prior to filing an appeal, however, owners are encouraged to discuss any differences they might have with the appraisers.

A $75 deposit is required for each appeal to the Kaua‘i County Board of Review. Separate appeals should be filed for each general land class of a parcel.
