Flood advisory issued for parts of Kauaʻi

The National Weather Service has issued a flood advisory for portions of Kauaʻi until 7:15 p.m. today.

Excessive rainfall could cause minor flooding on roads and in poor drainage areas and streams. Some locations that will experience flooding include Kapaʻa, Princeville, Kīlauea, Hanalei, Moloaʻa, Wainiha, Wailua Homesteads, Hāʻena, Wailua, Nā Pali State Park and Kealia.

At 4:12 p.m., radar indicated heavy showers and thunderstorms over the North Shore, with the heaviest rain falling at a rate of 1 to 3 inches per hour between Anahola and Kalihiwai.

The National Weather Service advises people to stay away from streams, drainage ditches and low lying areas prone to flooding.

The advisory might need to be extended if flooding persists.
