6 People Displaced After Blaze in Kīlauea

The American Red Cross is helping six individuals who were reportedly displaced after a structure fire in Kīlauea Thursday afternoon, July 15.
Kaua‘i County officials sent an email at 2:04 p.m. indicating Ko‘olau Road was closed as fire crews were battling a blaze. First responders were staging fire units and shuttling water via Ko‘olau Road.
Kaua‘i Firefighters with stations 8, 2, 3, Rescue 3, Air 1, the Department of Public Works responded to the scene.
Kaua‘i Fire Department posted a video on social media of the water drops made to douse the flames of the structure. KFD states they had limited water supply but were able to knock out the blaze using Air 1 and multiple water tankers.
County officials sent out another email at 6:18 p.m. that indicated the scene had been cleared and the road had reopened but first responders would return today, July 16, to continue their investigation into the fire.
