Critical infrastructure workers must quarantine in a hotel or motel, county officials clarified Wednesday.

Mayor Derek Kawakami’s Emergency Rule 17 clarified the quarantine order, which is in place to stem the spread of COVID-19. After the quarantine period is completed, the workers are free to stay in other locations.

Gov. David Ige signed Emergency Rule 17 on Sept. 8, 2020. Any person violating any rule of the governor or mayor, if convicted, could face a fine of up to $5,000 or a serve up to a year in jail, or both.
