Seriously injured female hiker being treated at Hoʻopi’s second falls on Kaua’i; rescue underway

An injured female hiker, located about 1,000 yards below Kauai’s popular Ho’opi hiking trail’s second falls, is being treated for serious injuries by first responders from Kaua’i Fire Station 8.

The woman is in stable condition.

Kaua’i Batallion Chief One is coordinating the rescue and is assessing the best route and quickest extrication method to deliver the hiker to paramedics.

Kauai Air 1 Helicopter was among the responders setting up for the rescue, but has returned to Līhuʻe airport and is standing by.

Rescue efforts have been hampered when mostly sunny weather in the area gave way to limited visibility and rain around 4 p.m. At this time, specialized rough terrain transport equipment is being brought in to assist the rescuers.
