UPDATE: One lane near Hanalei Bridge now open

Updated at 7:04 p.m. on Feb. 5: One lane of Kūhiō Highway near the Hanalei Bridge is now open, according to the Hawai‘i Department of Transportation.

Updated at 1 p.m. on Feb. 4: The National Weather Service downgraded flash flood warning to a flash flood advisory, which is in effect through 4 p.m. on Saturday.

Rainfall has decreased over Kauaʻi and flood waters have been receding. 

Hauaala Road at Keapana Bridge is now open, according to Kaua‘i Police Department officials.

Updated at 12:30 p.m. on Feb. 4: The Kekaha Landfill is reopened. Puhi Metals on Puhi Road and green waste at the Līhu‘e Refuse Transfer Station remain closed.

Updated at 9:50 a.m. on Feb. 4: The National Weather Service has extended the flash flood warning for Kaua‘i until 1 p.m. Saturday due to heavy rains occurring over the island. 

Flooding is affecting the following roads:

  • Kūhiō Highway near the Hanalei Bridge remains closed.
  • NOW OPEN: Hauaala Road near the Keapana Bridge.
  • Boulders have been reported on a portion of Kokee Road.
  • Awawa Road in Hanapēpē Valley has reports of debris near bridges in the area.
  • Ōma‘o Road has reports of a downed tree.
  • Kekaha Road near the post office is flooded, with signs placed in the area.

Crews with the Department of Public Works Roads Division are currently responding.

A community-run shelter has been opened at Hale Halawai In Hanalei. 

Due to lightning and heavy rain, Puhi Metals on Puhi Road is closed until further notice.

In addition, the Kekaha Landfill and green waste service at the Līhu‘e Refuse Transfer Station will remain closed due to the weather.

Ponding, low visibility and other hazardous driving conditions are expected. If you must drive, please do so with extreme caution.
